Europe’s Demand for Wood Pellets to Impact Southeast

The UK’s biggest coal-fired power plant will spend $1 billion to convert half of its units to burn wood pellets. Once completed, it would require harvesting a forest the size of Rhode Island each year. The company says the majority of pellets would come from the Southeastern US, raising concerns about sustainability.
